How to play
Your rickshaw drives itself up the avenue. The road has two lanes: the kerb lane on the left and the fast lane on the right. Tap anywhere on the game — or click, or press Space, Enter, W, S or the up or down arrow — to start, and then to swerve into the other lane. On a keyboard the left and right arrows (or A and D) choose a lane directly.
- One tap is always the other lane. The rickshaw starts across the moment your finger lands. Tap again while it is still crossing and it turns round.
- Dodge the traffic. Flower carts, donkey carts, potholes and parked rickshaws are in the kerb lane; school vans, motorbikes and buses in the fast lane. While it is crossing, the rickshaw takes up road in both lanes, so the trick is to swap in the gap between two of them.
- Pick up fares. People wave from the kerb. Drive past them in the kerb lane and they hop in: Rs 50, or Rs 100 for an aunty with her shopping. The fast lane pays nothing.
- Bal bal! Get out of something’s way with no time to spare and that is a near miss: Rs 10.
- Three dents and you are out, shown at the top left. After a dent the rickshaw is shaken for a moment and nothing else can dent it.
- The further you drive, the faster it goes and the thicker the traffic. Your score is the rupees you took.
Common questions
Are there ads?
No. Not a banner, not a pop-up, not a “watch a video to carry on”. There is no advertising in Beep Beep Rickshaw! at all, and there is nothing to buy. Your run is never interrupted.
Does it really play offline?
Yes. Once you have opened it once with a connection, it plays with no connection at all — from your home screen, in aeroplane mode, anywhere. It never needs the internet to play, and it never goes online in the middle of a run.
My tap did not swerve
Every tap during a run swerves. Two fingers landing together, or a finger that bounces, count as one tap — otherwise the rickshaw would swerve and swerve straight back. A quick deliberate double-tap is two taps: over and back. On the start screen a tap starts the run; after a run ends, the card waits a moment before a tap starts the next one, so a tap meant for the road does not skip it.
My best score disappeared
In a browser, your best score and settings are saved in that browser, on that device only. They are lost if you clear the site’s data or browsing history, and private or incognito windows forget them when closed. They do not transfer between devices or browsers.
In the Android app, your best score and settings are kept in the app’s storage on your phone. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage in your phone’s Settings removes them.
It says the game is offline, or looks out of date
In a browser, Beep Beep Rickshaw! keeps a copy of itself in your browser so it works without a connection. When a new version is published, the first launch with a connection downloads it and the launch after that runs it — so if something looks stale, open it once more. Reloading twice is always enough. The Android app has the whole game inside it and never needs a connection; new versions arrive as app updates from the store.
The game runs slowly or stutters
In a browser, close other tabs and reload the page. In the Android app, close the app and open it again. If it continues, send us your device model and browser, or that you play the app — performance reports genuinely help, and we act on them.
Can I turn off the sound?
Yes. Open Settings with the gear in the top-right corner of the game and switch Sound off; it remembers your choice. The game is fully playable with sound off. It also pauses by itself when you switch away from the tab or the app, and the pause button next to the gear — or P or Esc on a keyboard — stops it any time.
How do I report a bug or suggest something?
Email us. Small games are shaped by the people who play them, and suggestions are read by the person who makes the game.
Accessibility
The game needs one input and no aiming, plays with touch, a mouse or a keyboard, and works fully with sound off. A swerve also sounds different depending on the lane it heads for. In a browser, it respects your system’s reduced-motion setting — the shake, the falling petals and the popping text hold still while play stays identical. If something makes the game hard for you to play, please tell us — that is a bug we want to know about.
